Many people don’t know this, but before I was a photographer I was a cinematographer and filmmaker.
And one of my favourite projects was this opening video for TEDxToronto 2015.
I hadn’t watched this in years.
To be honest I almost forgot about it.
The reason I pulled it up a few weeks back was because I was feeling really nervous about an upcoming creative project. I needed something to ground my nervous energy and to remind myself of what I am capable of.
I watched this video and then dove deeper into my older work and watched 2 more videos I made a few years back … and then it dawned on me.
So much of my creativity has been inspired by the city of Toronto.
It’s like every year I am writing love letters to her. Some are short films. Some are music videos and some are photos of strangers on the streets of Toronto.
But this common thread was unavoidable.
I owe this city so much. And I hope to continue writing her love letters till my last breath.
I’m curious, where does your inspiration come from? What’s inspired, awoken or even agitated your creativity in the past 10 years?
Love,
D
