I am breaking up with Instagram.
TikTok too.
It might sound crazy to you, it kind of sounds crazy to me.
I have over 291,000 followers on those two platforms. It took a lot of work to get that many followers. After all that hard work, I realized I climbed the wrong mountain.
To be clear I am not deleting my accounts. I still have so much love for my communities on those platforms and don’t want to abandon them.
Particularly on instagram, which I have been growing for the past 12 years.
The other part of the equation is that I also have a dependency on Instagram for my photography business. It continues to be a source of sales leads. I am grateful for all the revenue I have made through Instagram, but it has gotten to the point that the cost is not worth the reward.
A part of me wants to go cold turkey and place all my attention elsewhere, but I know that is not wise.
Instead I am working on a longer-term plan, that will slowly layout my exit from both Instagram and TikTok.
This feels a lot less reactive and more grounded in a healthy path forward.
Below you will find a deeper dive YouTube video, in which I share where my head and heart are at with my relationships with Instagram and TikTok.
I also speak about what I believe the future of content creation will look like in the next 10 years.
Thanks for listening and also for all the love and support on last weeks YouTube proclamation.
