I almost gave up on being an artist and entrepreneur.

In my late 20s, I was ready to throw in the towel. Every project I started eventually came crashing down, and nothing seemed to work.

This was strange, because in my early 20s, I had the Midas touch: every idea turned to gold. Until suddenly, it just stopped. It felt like I had been cursed—doomed to fail.

But I wasn’t cursed. What I see now that I couldn’t see then is that I had become a chronic starter: someone who starts many projects but doesn’t finish them.

• I didn’t yet understand the power of completion, the discipline it takes, or how integrity ties into all of it.

• No one coached me on mindset.

• No one taught me how to keep going when things got hard.

So I took the easy path: I bailed when things got complicated.

But here’s the thing… it only takes a few of these experiences to reshape your identity.

Before I knew it, I wasn’t the guy with the Midas touch anymore.

I was the guy who quit when things got tough. Unconsciously, I became a starter. And that identity followed me into every new project I started.

But then, when I was 29, everything changed. I had an opportunity to step out of that self-imposed prison and into something new. Something powerful.

That moment was the turning point for me, when I learned the massive difference between being a starter and a finisher.
