Good morning Artists,
As you know, I've been experimenting with Substack content all summer. And today, I wanted to try something a little different.
I wanted to pull from my life—and more specifically, from this week—and bring you into my world.
My theory is that the content that made an impact on my week will also add value to my community. So I’ve shared 3 things that gave me creative energy, inspired me to go deeper with my own work, and brought joy into my life.
And don't worry... I’ve still included a playlist for journaling below and new journaling prompts as well. 😎
Reply to this email or leave a comment on Substack if you want Episode 2, because every week I discover more songs, more podcasts, more books, and more videos that I’d love to share with you. Have a look below and let me know what you think.
Big love,
D
A Song That Moved Me:
My friend Saskia sent me this tender and moving song this week. It’s by an artist named Damiyr, and this was my first time hearing his music.
I was excited to discover his many beautiful and uplifting songs on Spotify. My favourite is called My Prayer, which you can listen to below.
A Podcast That Moved Me:
I accidentally stumbled onto this incredible interview with Bradley Cooper about his newest film, Maestro: a fearless love story chronicling the lifelong relationship between cultural icon Leonard Bernstein and Felicia Montealegre Bernstein (Cohn).
To be honest, I still remember Bradley Cooper as the guy from The Hangover movies, but within a few minutes of listening to him speak about this passion project—a film in which he not only is starring in, but is also directing—I quickly became a huge fan of Bradley Cooper the artist.
This film was clearly a labor of love, for which Bradly made great sacrifices to bring to life. In this podcast, Bradley talks about the adversity and rejection he encountered trying to get the film funded. Bradley also goes into great detail talking about what it took to channel Leonard Bernstein, legendary classical music composer and the conductor of the Philharmonic Orchestra in New York.
I walked away from this podcast feeling incredibly inspired and energized to dive even deeper into my own work and artistry.
I dare you to watch the trailer and not feel inspired.
This Week’s Journaling Playlist:
Journaling Prompt(s):
Today's journaling prompt is an invitation to place awareness and intention into how you want to spend the last four weeks of your summer.
Before it's too late—before that sneaky Autumn catches us—are there any things you still want to do with your summer? Are there any ways you'd like to feel? Are there any adventures that you'd like to say yes to?
Before it's too late, place that most precious resource; your attention and focus on how you'd like the last few days of your summer to unfold. Your answers don't need to be huge plans or look any certain way; they just need to be true to you.
Guided Meditation:
Here’s a meditation I made last year all about summer and the wisdom of the Sun. It’s intended to manifest an amazing summer.
(I realize it’s the first week of August which means there are only a few weeks of summer left, but it’s never too late to soak in all the yumminess.)
Have a great weekend artists.
Big love,
D
