Good morning Artists,
This 1-minute video just might change your life. It's a fun and simple visual demonstration of the power of momentum.
When I watch this, the world gets really quiet.
At first glance, the video has nothing to do with focus. But at some point, this physics professor had to make a decision about where to put his energy first.
It helps me understand that my greatest dreams are possible, if I slow down and place my focus on the most immediate task that would initiate a magical dance with momentum.
Impossible feats become inevitable when we understand the rules of the universe.
Focus is a superpower
Personally, I think focus is a superpower—especially if you consider that there are more things in this world to distract us than ever before.
Apparently the amount of stimulation we receive in one day is more stimulation than our ancient ancestors would have received in their entire lives.
I have worked with hundreds, if not thousands, of creative humans in my career and the majority of them have a hard time focusing on one project at a time. I also fall into this category as well. I run three different creative businesses.
I think it's the nature of a creative mind that we are inherently inquisitive, curious and resourceful, but that also makes us easily distracted. So if you can find a way to focus and prioritize your energy in the midst of endless distractions, then you will have an incredible competitive advantage.
Not everyone needs to blend creativity and business. I honestly think most people would be happier if they spent their time in creativity and artistry just for fun. But for those that really want to take it to the next level and fuse their creative passions with sustainable business practices, focus is crucial for momentum.
But there are levels to this thing.
STEP 1 is to get clear on what you want.
STEP 2 is to break that goal into smaller parts.
And STEP 3 is to figure out the priority of those smaller steps.
The steps may be simple, but honestly, putting them into action effectively takes mastery.
Below I have included some journal prompts for anyone who is interested in taking these three steps and integrating them into their own lives.
Good luck, Artists!
This Week’s Journaling Music Playlist:
Journaling Prompt(s):
Have a listen to the audio clip below for more guidance for how to tackle this week’s journal prompt on the topic of focus.
After you listen to the audio clip, you can answer the following questions.
Specifically describe a tangible goal that will impact your work. (Be specific!)
Break down that goal into smaller parts (or dominos) that come before it.
Do your best at placing the parts/dominos in the most efficient order to allow you to utilize the tremendous power of momentum.
Guided Meditation
I can’t wait to hear how you put this into action.
If you're up for it, send me a reply with what your first domino is.
Big love,
D
