What a lovely homage. Once again, it's incredibly helpful to see what's behind the amazing fountain of joy, art, and creativity that flows though the Darius we know of Artist Morning. The myth of the lonely artist doing it all by themselves is a powerful stereotype to battle, but this post is a powerful antidote. Thanks again!
I don't think anyone does ANYTHING without accountability. I think self-motivation is a myth.
2-3 times a week Sal is literally waiting for me at exactly 8:30am. We have 2 hours of online virtual editing/co-creating time allocated and budget assigned to that time as well. I get up 3 hours before that to do my morning rituals and open my heart and creative channels so that I can do my solo writing for at least 90 minutes before Sal shows up, expecting a finished draft to edit.
I do not want to disappoint her and I also don't want to waste the money assigned to compensating Sal for her efforts. The combo of both motivates the hell out of me to make it count.
Yes, that is a deep shift I've been undergoing. My friend and podcast partner and I have been doing something like that for each other over the last year or two and the progress and breakthroughs are amazing. But I keep finding pockets of resistance I have to lovingly attend to in order to keep moving forward with the joyful, not tortured artist life I'm creating!
I’ve been doing this for about 20 years and I’m pretty sure the pockets of resistance are a forever thing. I am also fairly certain that’s not a bad thing. Each instance has gifts for us and almost always makes us both stronger and wiser. Rooting for you dear friend.

Celebrating you both.
